Impact of yoga and healthful lifestyle

In 2016, researchers published results of the Lifestyle Modification and Blood Pressure Study (LIMBS). This was one of only a few randomized controlled trials to investigate whether yoga can reduce high blood pressure. Specifically, the study compared the effects of practicing Hatha yoga for 12 weeks with more standard approaches. Researchers randomly divided the participants into the following groups: Yoga: This group contained 43 people. They attended two 90-minute yoga classes each week for 12 weeks. Gradually, they also began to practice yoga at home, guided by DVD instruction. Healthful living: This group contained 48 people. They followed a health education and walking program. It included classes in nutrition and motivational guidance, and participants gradually worked up to 180 minutes of walking per week. Yoga and healthful living: This group contained 46 people. They attended the yoga classes and the health education and walking program, but they could opt out of home yoga. The researchers concluded that all three approaches reduced resting blood pressure. In every participant, readings were lower at 12 weeks and 24 weeks than they had been at the start of the study. At 12 weeks, the reduction in blood pressure was more significant in the group that did only yoga, compared to the group that followed the education and walking program. Overall, drops in blood pressure were small, but even small reductions can benefit hea

Regular yoga practice also benefits healthy individuals, improving psychological well-being, satisfaction with life, and self-esteem, and reducing stress and performance anxiety. Studies have also found that yoga reduces fatigue and negative affect, while increasing positive affect and giving a feeling of being energised. Yoga poses and self-esteem Our study was unusual compared to others examining the effects of yoga practice in that it examined only the asana aspect of yoga in order to investigate its effect on self-esteem. Predominantly, research into yoga has focused on the benefits of meditation and breathing. A recent review of 465 research papers devoted to yoga’s role in promoting well-being noted that only 169 of those papers included the physical aspects of asana. To the best of our knowledge, only two previous studies have focused solely on studying the psychological effects of yoga poses. We compared the effect of the tadasana, urdhva hastasana and garudasana yoga poses to two “high power” and two “low power” power poses. We found that after performing two yoga poses our participants felt more energetic, empowered, and in control than those participants who performed power poses. Feeling energetic directly affected their confidence and feeling of satisfaction with themselves regardless of their initial levels of self-esteem. We think such effects had less to do with the meaning of dominance associated with the poses, and more with the feedback please join ha

Over the past decade, yoga has taken the western world by storm. And it’s not surprising: Yoga– partly because it’s a form of physical activity– has been proven to offer a wide range of health benefits. The physical health benefits are aplenty; yoga is known to improve strength, flexibility, balance, blood circulation, alleviate pain and the list goes on. In addition to enhancing the body’s well-being, yoga also works to support mental and emotional health. A regular practice helps reduce stress, relieve anxiety and manage depression symptoms by promoting mindfulness. Photo Credit: GMB Monkey on Unsplash The only problem is, if you’re an athlete looking to take advantage of the benefits of yoga to aid your performance, an entrepreneur looking to maximize your energy, or you simply want to adopt a simple yoga routine at home to optimize your performance and improve your health, it can be really confusing. It’s hard to know how to choose the best poses for optimizing your body and mind as there are about as many forms and offshoots of yoga as there are positions, so you’re liable to become overwhelmed before ever taking action. Feeling too pressed for time? The truth is not everyone has the option to go to a one-hour yoga class everyday, but the good news is that incorporating just a short, 10-minute practice into your daily routine is more than enough to reap all the goodness yoga provides. 5 Yoga Poses To Ease Your Emotional Hangover You know those times when it feels like there’s just too much? Too much holiday, too much family, too much pressure? When the momentum of our everyday lives builds to the point where it starts to drain us emotionally, it can feel just as depleting and hard on the system as an actual hangover from alcohol.  The good news is, like all hangovers, emotional hangovers are temporary, and there are proactive things you can do to help your body and mind recover. That’s where this series of yoga postures come in.  So grab your mat and throw on a comfy pair of sweats. As we settle into this at-home practice, we’ll cultivate the skills to step back, slow down, and hang out in presence. The truth is, simply being present and becoming more aware of what’s arising now is incredibly healing. And the best part is, being present requires absolutely nothing. It’s with us all the time, and it’s something we can always come back home to. Just like it’s easy to hold our emotions in and bury them deep, it’s super common for us to guard and hold the low belly in as a gesture of protecting ourselves. By softening the belly in Child's Pose, you’re practicing surrendering and letting go, which is a sign of strength Article continues below Click your big toes together and open your knees wide. Sink your hips back and stretch your arms forward.

Definition - What does Kunjal Kriya mean?

..................................................................... Kunjal kriya is a cleansing technique used in Hatha yoga and in the traditional Indian healing system of Ayurveda. The practice involves ingesting warm saline water and then expelling it in order to clean out the stomach and upper digestive tract. Kunjal is a Sanskrit word that means “sour gruel,” while kriya means “an act” or “action.” Kunjal kriya is also known as vamana dhauti (regurgitative cleansing) and is one of a number of different techniques for cleansing the stomach that comprise a subcategory of shatkarmas, the six cleansing techniques of Hatha yoga. Kunjal kriya removes bits of undigested or partially digested food known as ama in Ayurveda. It is believed that cleansing the stomach and upper digestive tract of this food prevents the formation of toxins. Kunjal kriya is practiced early in the morning on an empty stomach. Roughly one to one-and-a-half quarts of warm salty water are consumed quickly until the yogi can't drink anymore.
